Special Lecture on World Water Day Organised at Modi College under ‘Hariyawal Lehar’ Punjab

Multani Mal Modi College, Patiala today organised a special lecture on water conservation, water preservation and water recycling to mark the World Water Day 2024. This day is observed as a reminder of the importance of this natural resource .According to United Nations this observance is not merely a date on the calendar but it is a call to action, urging global citizens to recognize the vital role water plays in our life and to take concrete steps to address the pressing issues of its scarcity and inequitable access. This lecture was focused at the slogan of ‘Plant the trees, save the water and Ban the plastic’. In this lecture Mr. Shayam Sunder, Coordinator, Hariyawal Lehar, Advocate Baljinder Thakur, Mr.Dharam Soni, Punjab Pollution Control Board and Mr. Puneet Garg, Convener, Hariyawal Lehar, Punjab were present. The lecture was delivered by Mr.Gurkaran Singh, Assistant Environment Engineer, Punjab Pollution Control Board. College principal Dr. Neeraj Goyal said that Punjab is the land of five rivers but it is unfortunate that we are facing such water crisis. The essence of World Water Day lies in understanding water as a life sustaining resource and reorganization of over two billion people world wide who lack access to safe water. According to United Nation Approximately two billion world wide also don’t have facilities for preservation, conservation and water recycling which is a area of grave concern. The speakers were formally introduced by Dr, Kuldeep Kumar, Head of Department of Biotechnology. Mr. Gurkaran Singh in his lecture said that under National Green Tribunal we are trying to revive and sustain our precious rivers. He said that our government is committed for providing safe drinking water for each and every citizen. Mr. Shayam Sunder, Coordinator, Hariyawal Lehar, Advocate Baljinder Thakur, Mr.Dharam Soni, Punjab Pollution Control Board and Mr. Puneet Garg, Convener, Hariyawal Lehar, Punjab also motivated to save the water and told that ‘World Water Day also aims to fulfill sustainable Development goal 6, which is to ensure the easy availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all by 2030. The global water crisis is the pressing issue that affects billions of people. All staff members were present in this programme. The vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Gurdeep Singh, Head of Punjabi Department.

ਮੁਲਤਾਨੀ ਮੱਲ ਮੋਦੀ ਕਾਲਜ, ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਨੇ ਅੱਜ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਜਲ ਦਿਵਸ 2024 ਦੇ ਮੌਕੇ ‘ਤੇ ‘ਪੰਜਾਬ ਹਰਿਆਵਲ ਲਹਿਰ’ ਦੇ ਸਹਿਯੋਗ ਨਾਲ ਪਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਸਾਂਭ-ਸੰਭਾਲ ਤੋਂ ਲੈਕੇ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਰੀਸਾਈਕਲਿੰਗ ਦੀ ਮਹਤੱਤਾ ‘ਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਲੈਕਚਰ ਦਾ ਆਯੋਜਨ ਕੀਤਾ। ਇਸ ਦਿਨ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਰਗੀ ਕੁਦਰਤੀ ਸਰੋਤ ਦੀ ਮਹੱਤਤਾ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਦਿਵਾਉਣ ਵਜੋਂ ਮਨਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸੰਯੁਕਤ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰ ਦੇ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਇਹ ਦਿਵਸ ਕੈਲੰਡਰ ‘ਤੇ ਲਿਖੀ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਇੱਕ ਤਾਰੀਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ਸਗੋਂ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਰਗੀ ਕੁਦਰਤੀ ਦਾਤ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਂਭਣ ਅਤੇ ‘ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਲਈ ਪਾਣੀ’ ਦੇ ਤਹਿਤ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਪੱਧਰ ਤੇ ਨਾਗਰਿਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਅਪੀਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਅਹਿਮ ਭੂਮਿਕਾ ਨੂੰ ਪਛਾਣਨ ਅਤੇ ਇਸਦੀ ਘਾਟ ਬਾਰੇ ਚੇਤੰਨ ਹੋਣ।ਇਸ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਵਿੱਚ ‘ਹਰਿਆਵਲ ਪੰਜਾਬ’ ਲਹਿਰ ਦੇ ਕੌਆਰਡੀਨੇਟਰ ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਸ਼ਿਆਮ ਸੁੰਦਰ, ਐਡਵੋਕੇਟ ਬਲਜਿੰਦਰ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਅਤੇ ਰਿਸੋਰਸ ਪਰਸਨ ਵੱਜੋਂ ਗੁਰਕਰਨ ਸਿੰਘ, ਸਹਾਇਕ ਵਾਤਾਵਰਨ ਇੰਜਨੀਅਰ,ਪੰਜਾਬ ਪ੍ਰਦੂਸ਼ਣ ਕੰਟਰੋਲ ਬੋਰਡ,ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਇੰਜਨੀਅਰ ਧਰਮ ਸੋਨੀ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼੍ਰੀ.ਪਰਨੀਤ ਗਰਗ, ਹਰਿਆਵਲ ਲਹਿਰ ਸ਼ਾਮਿਲ ਹੋਏ। ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਤੇ ਬੋਲਦਿਆ ਕਾਲਜ ਪ੍ਰਿੰਸੀਪਲ ਡਾ. ਨੀਰਜ ਗੋਇਲ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਪੰਜ ਦਰਿਆਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਪਾਣੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਸੰਕਟ ਦਾ ਪਰਛਾਵਾ ਮੰਦਭਾਗਾ ਹੈ।ਉਹਨਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਜਲ ਦਿਵਸ ਦਾ ਸਾਰ ਪਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਹੋਂਦ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਇਮ ਰੱਖਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਰੋਤ ਵਜੋਂ ਸਮਝਣ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਭਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਦੋ ਅਰਬ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਪਛਾਣ ਕਰਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੈ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਲਈ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਅਤ ਪਾਣੀ ਉਪਲਬਧ ਨਹੀਂ। ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਦੇ ਸੰਚਾਲਕ ਡਾ.ਰਾਜੀਵ ਸ਼ਰਮਾ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਸੰਯੁਕਤ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰ ਦੇ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਭਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਗਭਗ ਦੋ ਬਿਲੀਅਨ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਕੋਲ ਪਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਸਾਂਭ-ਸੰਭਾਲ ਅਤੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਰੀਸਾਈਕਲਿੰਗ ਲਈ ਸਹੂਲਤਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਕਿ ਗੰਭੀਰ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਦਾ ਖੇਤਰ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਤੇ ਡਾ.ਕੁਲਦੀਪ ਕੁਮਾਰ, ਬਾਇਉਟੈਕਲੌਜੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਨੇ ਬੁਲਾਰਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਜਾਣ-ਪਛਾਣ ਕਰਵਾਈ। ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਤੇ ਬੋਲਦਿਆ ਸ਼੍ਰੀ. ਗੁਰਕਰਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਕੇਂਦਰੀ ਗਰੀਨ ਟ੍ਰਿਬਿਊਨਲ ਦੇ ਦਿਸ਼ਾ-ਨਿਰਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਮੁਤਾਬਿਕ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਦਰਿਆਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੁਨਰ-ਜੀਵਤ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਲਗਾਤਾਰ ਕਾਰਜਸ਼ੀਲ ਹੈ।ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਹਰ ਨਾਗਰਿਕ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਫ ਪਾਣੀ ਮਹੱਈਆ ਕਰਵਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਵਚਨਵੱਧ ਹੈ। ਇੰਜਨੀਅਰ ਧਰਮ ਸੋਨੀ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼੍ਰੀ.ਪਰਨੀਤ ਗਰਗ, ਹਰਿਆਵਲ ਲਹਿਰ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ‘ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਜਲ ਦਿਵਸ’ ਦਾ ਉਦੇਸ਼ ਟਿਕਾਊ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਟੀਚਾ ਛੇ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰਾ ਕਰਨਾ ਵੀ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਕਿ 2030 ਤੱਕ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਲਈ ਪਾਣੀ ਅਤੇ ਸੈਨੀਟੇਸ਼ਨ ਦੀ ਉਪਲਬਧਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਟਿਕਾਊ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧਨ ਨੂੰ ਯਕੀਨੀ ਬਣਾਉਦਾ ਹੈ। ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਜਲ ਸੰਕਟ ਇੱਕ ਪ੍ਰਮੁੱਖ ਮੁੱਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਕਿ ਅਰਬਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵਿਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਤੇ ਸਮੂਹ ਸਟਾਫ ਅਤੇ ਅਧਿਆਪਕ ਹਾਜ਼ਿਰ ਸਨ।ਅੰਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਧੰਨਵਾਦ ਦਾ ਮਤਾ ਡਾ.ਗੁਰਦੀਪ ਸਿੰਘ, ਮੁਖੀ,ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਨੇ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤਾ।
